- Glow Plugs 6.6 duramax Replace OE Part Number: 12639701, 97364968. Glow plugs are usually located on the top of the cylinder head. When you place them, remove the glow plug wires Carefully remove the glow plugs, one at a time, using a reamer to clean each electrical contact and nut, and ream the hole for each glow plug. Replace each plug with a screw and tighten it with a ratchet. Use a wrench to reconnect the wires to each glow plug with a nut.
