- Sheet metal screws have sharp cutting threads that cut into sheet metal, plastic or wood. They are sometimes notched (Type-17 Point) at the tip to aid in chip removal during thread cutting. The shanks are threaded up to the head or to the undercut.
- These screws come in many types of heads, pan, flat, truss, oval, etc. Sheet metal screws make excellent fasteners for attaching metal hardware to wood because the fully threaded shank provides good retention in wood.
- Phillips pancake head self drilling screws are made of 410 stainless steel and have a sheet metal thread with a self driller cutting (TEK) point to pierce through 20 to 14 gauge metals.
- The higher the TEK number the larger the drill point to pierce heavier gauge metals.
- The heads use a Phillips driver #2. These screws are used in the exterior elements as the 410 stainless steel is corrosion resistant.
