The first tank, filled with sodium-ion-saturated resin, attracts and traps calcium and magnesium ions, leaving water 'soft'. Once full, tanks switch roles. Regeneration involves flushing sodium-ion-rich solution through the tank, releasing trapped ions and resetting the resin. This process discards hard ions, leaving soft water ideal for hotels, schools, or restaurants.
